- ORGANIZATION
Thunchan Memorial Government (TMG) College was started in the year 1980.The College was inaugurated by Educational Minister of Kerala, Sri. Baby John. For the present generation, it might be a surprise to learn that this prestigious College had a very humble beginning. With no separate building of its own at that time, the classes were initially held in the few class rooms of the nearby Paravanna Government High School. One of the rooms of the nearby Master’s Lodge served as the make-shift office room of the College. In 1981, this College was aptly christened as Thunchan Memorial Government College, thus honoring the father of modern Malayalam Language, whose birthplace is Tirur. The College was shifted to its new premises by 1984. The Committee received generous helps from the public by way of donation. 22.5 acres of salubrious land at Vakkad was purchased and a College building was constructed on the land at the cost of Rupees five lakhs. 17th November 1984 is a memorable day in the annals of the College. On this day, the College started functioning in its own building.
TMGC Tirur is one of the Skill Development Centre among the 14 SDC’s in Malappuram and was one among the first SDC to be set up in the district during the year 2012-’13. It is located at Tirur constituency and is about 8 km from Tirur city.
VISION
The Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) is a flagship innovation of Government of Kerala to address the unemployment problem through a preventive dimension. It aims at providing additional skill training to the students studying at Government and Aided Higher Secondary Schools and Arts and Science under Graduate Colleges in the state to make the job market ready.
The students from various educational institutions are brought to the Skill Development Centers for providing industry sector specific skill training. The Skill Development Centers (SDCs) are the transitional institutions before we establish the proposed Community Skill Parks. In this way the role of SDCs is very important and they are mandated to institutionalize a futuristic vision of making Kerala the most preferred skill destination for the entire world.

In pursuance of our vision and guiding principles, we endeavor to facilitate the creation and promotion of socially relevant education, towards creation of a society that is sensitive to human rights, ecology, environment and sustainable development.

ANNUAL REPORT 2022-23
ASAP Kerala is entrusted with the objective to impart job-ready skills to students. Our interventions are being implemented across Government and Government-aided schools and colleges in the state. They have demonstrated remarkable results. These centres are ASAP’s Partner Institutions that serve as training centres to undertake skill courses. ASAP follows a hub-and-spoke model of training. We’ve designed an industry-led skill training ecosystem through 126 SDCs. These connect institutions, including Higher Secondary Schools, Engineering and Polytechnic colleges for multi-skill training. The centres have state-of-the-art computer labs.
ASAP in our college was started in the year 2016-17 with the Foundation Skill Classes offered to the students, an opportunity to improve and enhance their communicative skills in English, especially speaking, along with basic knowledge and use of computer. While the Communicative English sessions included language based activities like games, presentations, role-plays etc. The IT sessions covered topics which introduced the students to operating systems,internet, social network chats etc.
An Institutional Level Committee (ILC) for ASAP was constituted on for the better management of ASAP classes. The members of the committee included the Principal, Program Coordinator, Program Manager. Dr. Aboothahir Afzal Assistant professor in Physics was appointed as program coordinator for ASAP SDC of our college from 2020 onwards. The foundation courses which was offered free of cost previously in our college where 200 students from our college and neighbouring schools participated was stopped by ASAP headquarters. A computer lab with 30 computers in the second floor of the main building of our college is allotted to ASAP as the computers were funded by ASAP. There was no classes conducted in our college for any students since 2020 from ASAP and new decision from ASAP head quarters to start the classes is expected
